Requirements

Candidates should have experience as a Design Manager or Design Coordinator in construction, ideally with a main contractor, and experience across new-build, fit-out, or refurbishment projects. They should have strong technical knowledge, be able to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple design packages, and demonstrate communication, stakeholder-management, and buildability skills.

Job Description

An established construction business is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join its team in Merseyside
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing contractor delivering a varied portfolio of new build, fit-out and refurbishment projects, taking responsibility for the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery

The Role

As Design Manager, you will work closely with the pre-construction, commercial and operational teams to coordinate the design process and ensure information is technically compliant, buildable and delivered in line with the construction programme

Projects will range across new build developments, internal fit-outs and refurbishment schemes, giving you exposure to a varied workload rather than one particular type of construction

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the design process from pre-construction through to completion
  • Coordinating design across new build, fit-out and refurbishment projects
  • Managing architects, consultants and specialist subcontractor design information
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information
  • Identifying design, coordination and buildability issues at an early stage
  • Chairing and contributing to design team meetings
  • Managing design programmes and information release schedules
  • Coordinating information between clients, consultants, subcontractors and project teams
  • Managing RFIs, technical queries and design changes
  • Working closely with commercial and operational teams throughout delivery
  • Ensuring designs comply with project specifications, contractual requirements and relevant regulations
  • Supporting site teams in resolving technical and design-related issues

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Design Manager or Design Coordinator within construction
  • Experience working for a main contractor or similar construction business
  • Experience across new build, fit-out and/or refurbishment projects
  • Strong understanding of the design and construction process
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants and subcontractors
  • Good technical knowledge with the ability to interrogate drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A practical understanding of buildability and project delivery
  • The ability to manage multiple design packages and priorities

The Opportunity

This is a strong opportunity for a Design Manager looking to join a progressive construction business with a varied pipeline of new build, fit-out and refurbishment work across Merseyside and the wider Northwest

You'll join a collaborative team and have genuine involvement throughout the project lifecycle, from early design and pre-construction through to successful delivery
