Job Summary

St Mary’s University is seeking an exceptional Deputy Director of Strategic Planning to lead our strategic planning, reporting and insights function and help shape the University’s future through the intelligent use of data.

This is a high-profile leadership role for an individual with a strong track record in strategic planning data and analytics who can turn complex information into clear, actionable insight — influencing strategic decisions, improving organisational performance and driving meaningful data transformation across the University.

Working closely with the University Secretary, Academic Registry, IT and colleagues across the University, you will lead initiatives that strengthen data quality, governance, reporting and analysis. You will also play a key role in building the University's capacity and capability to use data effectively in support of its strategic objectives.

Candidate Summary

We’re looking for an accomplished data and strategic planning leader with the credibility and communication skills to influence at all levels of a complex organisation.

You will bring:

• Relevant professional experience, supported by a degree/professional qualification or substantial equivalent experience.
• A strong understanding of Higher Education and the ability to build effective networks across a complex organisation. Proficiency in Power BI (or similar).
• A proven track record of leading complex data systems, analytics, visualisation and related strategies.
• The ability to translate complex data problems into clear, compelling messages for non-specialist audiences.
• Experience gathering and analysing business requirements and managing stakeholder expectations.
• Experience developing and embedding effective operational processes.
• Expertise in data standards, data dictionaries, data quality and documentation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgement and initiative.
• Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills.
• Experience of line management and developing teams.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
