SP Energy Networks is delivering one of the UK's largest electricity network investment programmes, with £12 billion being invested over the next five years. As part of this transformation, our SPT Strategic Projects business will deliver a £2.4 billion portfolio of major transmission infrastructure projects across Scotland.

We're looking for a Strategic Portfolio Cost Management Lead to provide functional leadership for cost management across this portfolio. Reporting to the Head of PMO, you'll lead cost control, forecasting and performance reporting activities, ensuring robust financial governance across complex, high-value EPC projects.

This is a unique opportunity to influence some of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects while playing a key role in Scotland's transition to Net Zero.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and continuously improve cost management processes, standards and governance across the Strategic Portfolio.
  • Own and maintain the Portfolio Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) and related cost management systems.
  • Oversee forecasting, earned value analysis, cost reporting and month-end financial processes.
  • Provide portfolio-wide cost performance insights, identifying trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Work closely with Planning, Risk, Procurement and Project Management teams to align cost and schedule baselines.
  • Monitor contractor performance against budgets and KPIs.
  • Lead the Value of Work Done (VoWD) process, including accruals and prepayments.
  • Recruit, mentor and develop Cost Engineers across the portfolio.
  • Drive the adoption of the Cost Management playbook and support the transition to S/4 HANA.
  • Ensure effective budget control through the approval of purchase requisitions and purchase orders.

What you'll bring

  • Significant experience in Cost Management on major EPC or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of cost control, estimating, forecasting and earned value management.
  • Experience managing complex cost structures across large, multi-disciplinary programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
  • Proficiency in SAP/S4 HANA, Power BI and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience leading and developing cost management teams.
  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is desirable but not essential.
  • Energy sector experience is beneficial, but we welcome applicants from other infrastructure sectors.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
