Consultant in Acute Medicine
Requirements
Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a license to practice and be on the GMC Specialist Register for Acute Internal Medicine. A medical degree, MRCP or equivalent, and recent experience at registrar or consultant level are essential.
Job Description
This post is offered on a full-time (10 PA) basis although less than full-time applications will be considered.
Duties will be based primarily on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.
The Acute Medicine Department at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals is supported by 8 WTE substantive consultants plus a number of long-term locum consultants and the following medical team.
4 Specialty Training Registrars,
4 Internal Medical Trainees,
4 ACCS Trainee,
4 FY1,
2 Physician Associates
The team along with GIM colleagues see approximately 30,000 patients each year, in both an inpatient and same day emergency care (SDEC) setting (split 50:50). The SDEC unit is supported by 16 qualified and trainee advanced clinical practitioners.

- Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles.
- Specialist skills as part of the AIM curriculum will also be supported.

Essential Person Specification Requirements
To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
Registered for General Medicine
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register via one of the following:
- CCT in AIM (or within 6 months of obtaining CCT)
- CESR in AIM
MRCP or equivalent
Eligibility to work in the UK
Recent experience working at registrar or consultant level.
Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
Good time management.
Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services.
Able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and patients.
Caring and compassionate
Flexible, adaptable and a good fit for the team
Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies
Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies
Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) clearance
