Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Interventional Cardiology to join our dynamic and forward-thinking department at Great Western Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing cardiology service at a time of significant growth and investment. This new substantive post has been created to support increasing demand for coronary intervention and to optimise utilisation of our modern catheter laboratory facilities.
You will join a collaborative team of six interventional cardiologists (expanding to seven with this appointment) within a wider consultant body currently comprising 13 cardiologists, increasing to 15 with concurrent recruitment to an imaging post. The service is recognised for its innovation, strong multidisciplinary working, and commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

Job Responsibilities
Management and Leadership Responsibilities:
All staff in each Division are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Division. Consultants are key members of the Division and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience.
To support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management Team.
To contribute to the leadership and development of Services under the direction of the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trusts business plans.
The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Division including support to the Divisional Director to achieve their objectives.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
- Deliver a comprehensive interventional cardiology service, including elective and emergency PCI
- Support a high-volume diagnostic and interventional service (:1,500 angiograms and 400 PCI cases annually)
- Undertake inpatient and outpatient general cardiology care, including ward rounds and clinics
- Participate in the consultant on-call rota and Cardiologist of the Week (COW) service
- Take part in the regional primary PCI rota at Bristol Heart Institute (BRI)
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, including complex PCI and structural heart discussions
- Support and develop advanced interventional techniques, including physiology- and imaging-guided PCI
- Contribute to teaching, training, audit, and research activities

- Daytime primary PCI service delivered on-site
- Out-of-hours PPCI provided via a shared rota at Bristol Heart Institute
- Advanced interventional techniques routinely used, including:
- Intravascular imaging (IVUS, OCT)
- Coronary physiology (FFR and related indices)
- Complex PCI (bifurcation, CTO)
- Strong MDT structure with access to regional surgical input
- Dedicated support from a highly skilled cath lab and specialist nursing team

Qualifications Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC
- CCT (or equivalent for non-UK applicants of equivalent status), or be accredited (or equivalent), and be on the GMC Specialist Register in the specialty appropriate for this consultant post at the time of taking up the consultant appointment. Alternatively, candidates can hold or be within 6 months of their CCT at interview.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Clinical training/experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT
- Expertise in full range of Cardiology conditions
- Ability to lead a multi-professional team and take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Recent experience of emergency trans-venous temporary pacing and pericardiocentesis (mentorship will be available by negotiation) - maintenance of emergency on call skills
- Sub-speciality interests will be supported
