Job Overview

Southmead is an Endometriosis Centre accredited by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE). An exciting new job opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the team. The post holder should have gynaecology experience with a specific interest in endometriosis and pelvic pain and will work in collaboration with Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain teams to give appropriate, specialist advice, including support and education in relation to all aspects of treatment and related issues. This is to ensure patients and their families receive sound clinical research-based care and have access to the necessary service as per NICE guidance.

The individual will be an autonomous Nurse practitioner with the ability to manage complex clinical situations, providing guidance, supervision and training to peers and junior members of staff.

Main duties of the job

The Endometriosis Specialist Nurse is an experienced and autonomous practitioner within the endometriosis service at NBT, delivering advanced, evidence‑based care across the entire patient pathway.

The role includes undertaking comprehensive history taking, clinical and psychological assessment, and interpreting diagnostic investigations in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Complex care needs are managed effectively, with patients receiving pre‑ and post‑operative guidance and ongoing follow‑up to ensure continuity of care and positive outcomes.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The nurse acts as a central point of contact for patients, offering consistent support, guidance and advocacy throughout the care journey. Nurse led clinics are managed confidently in a variety of formats, including face to face, telephone and virtual appointments. In line with service requirements, the role includes advising on hormonal therapies, pain management and supportive treatment options, as well as participating in consent discussions and treatment planning to ensure patients are fully informed and involved in decision making.

The role contributes significantly to leadership, education and service development within the endometriosis pathway. Responsibilities include active participation in multidisciplinary team discussions, supporting coordination of care, and contributing to the development and review of clinical pathways. The nurse provides mentorship and education to colleagues, promoting reflective practice, evidence-based care and consistent standards. Teaching sessions, study days and professional development activities are regularly delivered, alongside the creation of educational materials, clinical tools and patient information resources.
