Joining the Trauma and Orthopaedics team at Glangwili General Hospital offers an excellent opportunity for motivated doctors seeking to broaden their clinical experience at SHO level. As a Clinical Fellow, you will be part of a busy, supportive department delivering a comprehensive elective and trauma service, working closely with consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide high‑quality care for all orthopaedic admissions.
The post is based at Glangwili General Hospital with on-call cover also at Prince Philip Hospital.
A key strength of the Trauma and Orthopaedics departments at Glangwili General Hospital and Prince Philip Hospital is the strong educational ethos. Morning trauma meetings incorporate regular teaching, and there is a well‑established programme of audit, governance, and consultant‑led postgraduate education. The departments actively support resident doctors in developing their portfolios, offering plentiful opportunities to contribute to local service development, quality improvement projects, and audits.

Main duties of the job
The role provides extensive exposure to trauma and elective orthopaedics, with responsibilities that include supervising ward admissions, undertaking clinical investigations, contributing to diagnosis and treatment plans, and ensuring accurate documentation such as clinical notes and discharge summaries. You will also take part in the resident on‑call rota, gaining valuable hands‑on experience in acute trauma management.
Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

- Oversee all admissions to the wards, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Maintain accurate clinical notes and complete discharge summaries in a timely manner.
- Participate fully in the resident on‑call rota for Trauma and Orthopaedics.
- Attend and contribute to regular audit meetings, governance sessions, and consultant‑led postgraduate teaching.
- Engage in departmental teaching, including morning trauma meetings and dedicated educational sessions.
