ONS Census Test 2027 | Cardiff or Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Be at the heart of one of the UK's most important national projects.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is conducting an important large-scale Census Test in 2027. which will help shape the design and delivery of Census 2031.
AMS Skills Creation are working in partnership with ONS to hire an organised and self-motivated Area Operations Support Officer in [Location}.
This is an opportunity to support operational leadership and play a key role in a large-scale field operation. You’ll help deliver a successful Census Test that will shape the future of the UK's next Census. .

What you'll do:
- Support the Area Manager, Team Leaders and Officers across the Household (HH) operation of your assigned area.
- Work with university stakeholders to set a Communal Establishment (CE) operation, then support teams to engage students living in local halls of residence. Coordinate operational activities and onboarding of teams
- Help manage resources, reports and operational information
- Support local engagement events and participation activities
- Help drive delivery, ensuring field operations run smoothly and effectively
This is a field-based leadership role. Travel within your assigned area will be required, with expenses reimbursed in line with ONS travel policies.

Essential requirements
To be eligible, you'll need:
- Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle, with proof of (Business Class 1 use) insurance (evidence of both must be provided before employment begins)
- To meet the eligibility criteria for Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). BPSS includes identity, right to work, employment history; and criminal record (unspent convictions) checks.
- A reliable wireless broadband connection at your home address
- To be available to travel to ONS Headquarters in Titchfield, Hampshire for 4-5 day week beginning 14th December
