Requirements

Radiotherapy at UHB has seen a lot of positive change with a focus on cultural transformation, the implementation of a more structured learning and development plan, realigned reporting structures to support staff at all levels, all part of a much-needed overhaul, and now with the addition of a Deputy Lead Manager post successfully obtained by one of our senior team, we are looking to fill their previous role of Pre-Treatment Technical Lead.
This is a key appointment so we are seeking confident, highly motivated and forward-thinking applicants with a passion for patient care and service development as you will be leading and supporting a pre-treatment team who have built an incredible and enviable reputation for cancer treatment in the UK. Pre-treatment consists of 2 CT's an MRI, treatment preparation and Radiotherapy bookings, and is pivotal to ensuring our 4,500 new patients per year start their journey into radiotherapy without any concerns.
To join our Senior Management Team, applicants must hold a BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent and be registered with the HCPC with significant experience as a Team Leader / Senior radiographer. You must be able to demonstrate how your leadership skills have allowed you to successfully manage a large team.
You can expect excellent support off the Radiotherapy Lead Manager, Head of Operational Workforce and newly appointed Deputy Lead Manager as well as peer support from an existing team of Technical Leads.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
Your role will be to provide ongoing support and development to a highly skilled team consisting of Team Leaders, Senior Radiographers and Radiographers. You will act as a Technical Lead supporting your team with complex techniques, providing guidance and clarity around best solutions for patients.
The postholder will be expected to participate in all managerial responsibilities and to represent the department at external meetings where required.
In addition to responsibilities for day-to-day management of staff and patients, the post holder will take a leading role in the current and future development of staff and services and techniques within pre-treatment ensuring strategic plans are in place for all future development. You will also act as a resource for Clinicians, Radiographers and Medical Physics staff.
You will also be fundamental for the delivery of people strategies, addressing key people priorities with a person centred, solutions focussed approach. You will enable the development of staff experience, workforce planning, workforce design and change, culture and inclusion, and employee relations.
The applicant will be expected to participate in the technical lead rota to accommodate service demands as there is a requirement to routinely cover extended day working, Monday to Friday between 7.30am to 8pm. In addition, there is a requirement to work bank holidays and some occasional weekends.

Essential
- Qualified Radiographer (e.g. Diploma of the College of Radiographers -- Therapy / Degree in Therapeutic Radiography).
- Current state registration.
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree, post graduate study and significant experience in a specialist field to master's level or equivalent or willingness to work towards.
- Attendance of recent relevant post graduate courses and study days.
- Evidence of ongoing commitment to continuing professional development and progression of specialist expertise.
Essential
- Experience of working clinically at a senior radiographer grade with evidence of leading and organising a team of radiographers.
- Significant post graduate experience on a wide range of radiotherapy equipment to include recent and extensive experience at management level.
- Experience in assessing and teaching radiographers and trainee radiographers.
- Experience of developing staff clinically and professionally.
- Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns.
- Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy including potential radiation risks, acute patient side effects and their effective management.
- An active awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards and professional guidelines.
- Comprehensive understanding of IR(ME)R in relation to radiotherapy.
- Experience of undertaking clinical audits and surveys.
- Experience of change management.
- Experience of workforce planning.
Essential
- Ability to communicate articulately (written, verbal and non-verbal) and provide information across professional boundaries.
- Excellent computer skills with proven ability of interrogating the oncology management system.
- Proven leadership, organisational and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrable reasoning skills and an ability to use initiative and judgement in situations where there is a variance from routine/expected.
- Able to assimilate information and formulate ideas / projects / developments.
- Flexibility and the willingness to undertake a wide range of duties with the ability to work in all areas of the department.
- Ability to participate in extended hours and bank holiday working.
