Job Summary

University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) has a strong track record in developing Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and currently employs around 140 ACPs across a wide range of specialties. The Haematology and Oncology Department is seeking to recruit an ACP to join the existing team and support the delivery of high-quality patient care across both specialties.

UHB is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK, providing services across Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Birmingham Chest Clinic. It is also a regional centre for cancer care and bone marrow transplantation.

The Haematology Service provides specialist regional services including Stem Cell Transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, teenage and young adult cancer care, apheresis, a Comprehensive Haemophilia Centre and the Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (siHMDS). Inpatient services are primarily based at QEHB.

The Oncology Service delivers specialist Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) across a broad range of tumour groups through dedicated day units, inpatient wards and the Acute Oncology Service.

Haematology and Oncology services operate across four hospital sites and are supported by consultants, junior doctors, specialist nurses, CNS teams, AOS and ACPs. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across sites as required.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

The post holder will contribute to the delivery and development of high-quality advanced clinical practice within the Haematology speciality. They will work autonomously to assess, diagnose, treat and manage a caseload of patients, providing safe, effective and patient-centred care.

Due to the sensitive nature of the speciality, the successful candidate must be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, relatives and carers with compassion and professionalism. They should be proficient in bone marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy, skin biopsies, and the independent review and management of patients with haematological conditions.

Working alongside the established ACP team, the post holder will demonstrate expert clinical knowledge and high standards of practice. Completion of Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) training is desirable.

The successful candidate will work closely with Consultants, Nurses, Allied Health Professionals and administrative colleagues to deliver high-quality care. They will also contribute to service development, audit and quality improvement initiatives.

The role requires flexibility to meet service needs, including working across UHB sites when required.

Consideration will be given to partially trained ACPs who have commenced an MSc ACP programme with HEE funding.

Essential

• Professional Healthcare Registration with a UK Regulatory Body ( NMC / HCPC / GPC)
• Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience
• MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice/ Level 7 equivalent portfolio or minimum of 120 CATs and working towards full MSc (must cover all 4 Pillars of advanced clinical practice )-- Portfolio must include evidence of health assessment module at Level 7
• Non -- Medical Prescribing Course -- where applicable to registration
• Advanced Life Support Qualification
• Recognised Teaching & Assessing/ Mentoring Qualification / Course
  
  

Experience

Essential

• Extensive post registration experience at a senior level (Band 7 or above) in specialty area including significant and relevant senior clinical and leadership experience
• Evidence / experience of working in an MDT within a health care provider service
• Evidence of on-going CPD
• Evidence of teaching in a variety of
• environments
• A sound knowledge of professional priorities and issues relating to NHS care provision
• A knowledgeable clinician with ability to ensure clinical governance is embedded in practice
