Requirements

Applicants must hold a relevant nursing qualification at degree or diploma level and current UK registration with the appropriate part of the NMC register. They should demonstrate knowledge of the NMC Code, nursing care and safety standards, safeguarding, mental capacity, and health and safety, and be willing to supervise or assess students and work varied shifts.

Job Description

Job Summary

Educate and prepare women for Gynaecology Outpatient procedures including colposcopy and hysteroscopy procedures.

Ensure maintenance and safe use of all equipment.

Performs clinical care for women within the outpatient clinic and providing emergency care as required.

Contributes to the fulfilment of the health promotion agenda giving advice and counselling as required.

Receives information concerning patient's history which includes sensitive issues particularly related to Gynaecology.

Participates in the efficient management of the clinical service by time-managing designated workload.

Co-ordinates the efforts of junior staff where appropriate on a shift basis and readily identifies issues taking corrective action where appropriate and reporting to senior colleagues at the earliest opportunity.

Ensures that all written communication within the service is clear concise and timely and complies with the NMC standards for records and record-keeping.

Contributes to the effective management of ward/department resources by ensuring safe storage,

Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. ( Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
  • Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience

Experience

Essential

  • Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
  • Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
  • Being an accountable professional
  • Promoting health and preventing ill health
  • Assessing needs and planning care
  • Providing and evaluating care
  • Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and delegation skills
  • Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
  • Improving safety and quality of care
  • Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy
  • Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity
  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues.

Desirable

  • Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post graduate registered nurse.
