About The Role
We are seeking an experienced senior commercial and contracting leader to join our Infrastructure leadership team as Associate Director of Infrastructure: PFI & Contracting.
This is a significant appointment within the Trust and an opportunity to lead a strategically important portfolio at a time when we are strengthening our approach to PFI, commercial management and wider contracting arrangements.
Our PFI arrangements are complex, long term and central to the effective operation of our estate. We are looking for an individual who can bring strong commercial judgement, contractual expertise and strategic leadership to ensure the Trust is represented confidently and effectively in its relationships with the SPV, service partners and other key stakeholders.
Main duties
As Associate Director of Infrastructure: PFI & Contracting, you will provide senior leadership across the Trust’s PFI and wider contracting portfolio.
You will be responsible for strengthening commercial and contractual management, developing effective governance and ensuring the Trust has clear oversight of performance, risk, lifecycle, remedial activity and contractual obligations.
A key part of the role will be developing mature and constructive relationships with our PFI partners. We are looking for someone who understands that effective commercial management requires both challenge and collaboration: an individual who can protect the Trust’s interests, hold partners appropriately to account and build the relationships needed to deliver sustainable long-term outcomes.
You will work closely with senior leaders across the Trust and with external partners at Director and senior management level. The role therefore requires considerable judgement, credibility and the ability to communicate complex commercial matters clearly and persuasively.
You will also have an opportunity to help shape the future development of the PFI and remedial works function, strengthening capability, structures and ways of working within the team.
About You
We are interested in candidates who can demonstrate substantial experience of leading complex commercial or contractual relationships within a large and challenging environment.
You may already be working within the NHS, but NHS experience is not the only route to success in this role. We are equally interested in individuals from PFI/PPP project companies, facilities management providers, infrastructure businesses, commercial advisory organisations or other complex public-sector contracting environments.
You Are Likely To Bring
- significant commercial and contractual leadership experience;
- experience of complex, long-term outsourced or PFI/PPP-style contracts;
- strong negotiation, influencing and stakeholder-management skills;
- the confidence to operate credibly with senior internal and external stakeholders;
- a track record of balancing commercial challenge with effective partnership working;
- strong judgement, analytical ability and an understanding of risk;
- experience of developing teams and strengthening organisational capability;
- a values-led approach and an understanding of the importance of good commercial stewardship in supporting high-quality patient care.
Working for us
At Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, our infrastructure supports the delivery of care to the patients and communities we serve. We therefore see strong commercial management, effective partnerships and robust contractual arrangements as essential to creating safe, resilient and high-quality healthcare environments.
This appointment is part of the continuing development of our senior Infrastructure leadership team and reflects the strategic importance we place on our PFI and contracting portfolio.
For the right individual, this is an opportunity to take responsibility for a substantial and influential portfolio, strengthen the Trust’s commercial position and help shape how we manage these important relationships for the future.
If you are a commercially astute senior leader who combines contractual expertise with integrity, constructive challenge and a strong partnership ethos, we would welcome your application.
