Forward Deployed Engineer | AI Startup | London | upto £160k + Equity
What do aircraft, medical devices, lifts and electric vehicle batteries all have in common?
They all need to be tested, inspected and certified before they can be used.
Yet much of the industry responsible for this still runs on PDFs, spreadsheets and email.

The company
I'm working with an early-stage AI startup that's just raised $4.5m in seed funding, in a round that was 14 times oversubscribed and backed by two of the world's leading venture capital firms.
They're building AI-powered software for an enormous industry that most people probably haven't thought much about.
Every aircraft, medical device, lift, battery and building needs to go through testing, inspection and certification processes. Despite how important this work is, much of the industry still relies on Word documents, PDFs, spreadsheets and emails.
That's what this company is changing.
The traction has been pretty remarkable. They've gone from one customer to having their technology deployed within six of the ten largest enterprises in their industry in just a year.
They're now looking to hire five Forward Deployed Engineers as they continue to grow.
The challenge
How do you turn decades of messy documents, manual processes and complex enterprise workflows into software that actually works?
And how do you do it quickly, without compromising on engineering quality?
Those are the problems you'll be solving.
This isn't a role where you'll spend months building features without ever speaking to the people using them.
You'll be working directly with customers, understanding how their businesses operate and building software that solves their actual problems.
You'll have ownership across the entire product, from frontend and backend engineering through to data models and AI-powered workflows.
You'll be building and shipping:
- Full-stack applications using TypeScript, React, Node.js and Python
- AI-powered workflows and LLM integrations
- Backend systems, APIs and data models
- Solutions to complex enterprise problems, working directly with customers
- End-to-end products, from initial concept through to production
You'll own technical decisions, ship quickly and improve what you build based on real customer feedback.
What are we looking for?
- 3–6 years of full-time software or product engineering experience
- Early employee or founding engineer at a top-tier, venture-backed startup
- Degree from a highly regarded university, ideally UK top 10 or equivalent
- Strong full-stack skills across TypeScript, React, Node.js and Python
- Experience designing APIs, databases and backend architecture
- Proven track record of building and shipping end-to-end products to production
- Experience working directly with enterprise customers, gathering requirements and delivering solutions
- Comfortable taking technical ownership and making decisions in a fast-paced startup
- Able to work onsite in Shoreditch five days per week
Nice to have
- Previous Forward Deployed Engineering experience
- Experience with LLMs, AI applications or document intelligence
- Previous experience as a founder or founding engineer
The package
- £100,000–£160,000 base salary
- Meaningful equity
- Shoreditch, London, five days per week onsite
- Visa sponsorship considered

The interview process
An initial 25-minute conversation with the hiring manager, followed by a 40-minute technical discussion with the Lead Engineer, a three-hour take-home assessment and a final conversation with the CTO.
