Analytical Chemist
Requirements
Requires expertise in various analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC/MS, and FTIR. Ability to manage workloads using IT systems and train other staff members is expected.
Job Description
Using subject expertise and appropriate analytical techniques, conducting analyses and lead investigations as appropriate to support Sonoco’s business, customers, and other R&D teams, including:
- Food & Water Analysis
- Support Plant Quality Control
- Contaminants/ Foreign Body Identification
- Food Contact Regulatory Support
- Taint and Odour Investigations
- Other Analytical investigations using either in-house or out-sourced resources
- High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
- Ion Chromatography (IC)
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrophotometry (ICP-OES)
- Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FTIR)
- Gas Chromatography (GC)
- Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS)
- Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
Develop techniques and expand knowledge to investigate chemistry-based issues
Insightful interpretation and formal reporting in a timely manner of technical data with clear conclusions and recommendations
Train and development of other staff and apprentices in areas of expertise
Manage workload and samples using appropriate IT systems: ensure full traceability of samples is maintained by clear and accurate documentation and labelling
