Full-time, 36.5 hours per week (hybrid working)

Do you want to make a difference for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families?

Birmingham’s SEND services have been growing as part of the council’s long-term commitment to children, young people and their families and our improvements have recently been recognised by Ofsted. We’re looking for motivated people to join our teams and make a meaningful impact in this priority area.

You will be the named officer for children and young people with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan working within the legislative framework of the Children and Families Act 2014. Using your experience of working with children, young people, families, and professionals, including schools and settings, you will provide advice and guidance regarding annual reviews of EHC plan, ensuring that statutory and local processes and timescales are adhered to.

With your experience of reviewing professional advice and report writing, you will make sure that EHC plans reflect the special educational needs of our children and young people, and the provision they require to achieve their aspirations throughout the educational journey. Using your skills in communication and your person-centred approach to casework, you will ensure the focus is always the child and young person and everyone understands the processes and decisions made.

We will match your commitment with opportunities to grow and develop your knowledge and experience in SEND as well as other rewarding career progression routes. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and aim to have a workforce that represents the communities we serve.

To be part of this dynamic team and to play your part in our continued journey to delivering improved outcomes for Birmingham’s children, young people and their families, please consider whether your skills and experience can further strengthen the service.

The SENAR Reviews Team is split into two cohorts - Years 0-8 and Preparation for Adulthood (Year 9 and above). If you feel your experience and knowledge fits better with one of these cohorts, please include this in your supporting statement.

Please upload an up-to-date CV and Supporting Statement via the attachments part of your application.  The Supporting Statement should outline how you meet the criteria for the role through your personal qualities, skills and experience and include your motivation for applying to the post.  Note the Personal Statement should be no more than 1500 words.  Unfortunately, we cannot consider any applications without a CV and Personal Statement attached
