About the role: 

This position is for a February 2027 commencement. An initial contract will be issued for a two‑year period, with further employment subject to completing relevant training requirements and progression. To be eligible for this position you must be PGY3+ from February 2027.

Emergency Department Rotations will include both The Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital.

The Canberra Hospital ED is one of the busiest in the country, seeing >100,000 presentations per year, with 25%25 paediatric presentations. It is the regional referral centre for Trauma, Paediatrics and Women’s Health servicing ACT and southern NSW.

North Canberra Hospital ED is a large public hospital, 15 minutes from the city centre. It sees >55 000 presentations per year, also with a significant paediatric presentation volume.

There may be opportunities for rotations outside ED with mutual agreement between all parties.

There is a dedicated and protected SRMO teaching program that runs across both sites. This is aimed at developing knowledge and skills relevant to a career in Emergency Medicine, GP, Rural Medicine, any of the Acute or Critical Care Medical specialties. Completion of ACEM Associate Programs (formerly ED Diploma) is supported by both departments.

There is easy access to high quality restaurants, outdoor recreation and natural beauty, without the traffic of other major cities. It is especially recognized as a great place to raise a family. We have immediate access to National Parks, hiking, climbing and are 3 hours from both the beach and the snow.
