Blood Sensing Electrical Engineer (KTP Associate)
Requirements
Requires an MSc in electronic, biomedical, or related engineering, with a PhD being desirable. Candidates must have strong knowledge of sensor design, bioimpedance, and experience working with biological samples.
Job Description
City St George’s, University of London and Tape Specialities Ltd are recruiting a Blood Sensing Electrical Engineer (KTP Associate) to deliver an innovative project developing a breakthrough sensing system to assess blood quality inside sealed blood bags, improving safety and reducing waste. TSL is a long‑established medical diagnostics manufacturer with deep expertise in polymer films, adhesives and conversion processes. This KTP will enable TSL to expand its blood‑monitoring portfolio by creating the first system capable of quantifying blood viability without opening the bag.
The succesful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary project adapting impedance sensors for contactless conductivity detection in blood, optimising electronics and signal-processing systems, and implementing clinically aligned validation protocols. You’ll apply expertise in blood physiology and spectroscopy to develop robust algorithms, while communicating complex concepts, supporting training, and engaging with external stakeholders.
You will have an MSc in electronic, biomedical, or related engineering (PhD desirable), with strong knowledge of sensor design, signal processing, data analysis, and bioimpedance. You will bring experience in cross-disciplinary research with instrumentation and biological samples, alongside algorithm development and training delivery. You will also demonstrate excellent communication, coordination, problem-solving skills, and resilience.
This role will be based at TSL’s office in Tring, Hertfordshire, with visits to CSGUoL’s labs and facilities as required.
