Job Description

The Role

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen within the Practice Development, Education and Research Unit (PDERU) at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and creative Registered General Nurse (RGN) to lead practice development within the team, supporting clinical areas across Specialist Oncology and Clinical Haematology services across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde sites.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing staff practice within the cancer clinical environment through both direct and indirect engagement. They will inspire others and lead by example, promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement, professional development, and excellence in patient care.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Location: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (across NHS GGC sites)

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours/Work Pattern: Monday to Friday, requires full flexibility

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will lead and support a range of nursing and multiprofessional initiatives, including the implementation of Excellence in Care standards, CAS standards, HEI/SIPS, CCAAT audits, the CAIR dashboard, nurse induction programmes, HCSW training, speciality-specific training, competency programmes, medication safety initiatives, and the rollout of Peer Support.

They will work closely with Senior Charge Nurses to ensure that clinical practice is current and aligned with guidelines, evidencebased standards, research, and audit findings. A key part of the role is leading the development, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of speciality-specific education programmes for both qualified and unqualified nursing staff, and when appropriate, other members of the multiprofessional team. The role also supports the professional development of new nursing staff and contributes to maintaining high standards of care across the service.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with degree-level education
  • Substantial post-registration experience, including experience at senior ward level or Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist level
  • Evidence of leadership ability and influencing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous involvement in practice improvement initiatives
  • Working towards or willingness to undertake a relevant post-registration Master’s degree (or equivalent)
  • Commitment to completing a teaching/learning qualification
