About us

Internations Legal LLP (trading as Internations Legal Solicitors) is an SRA-regulated immigration and public law firm based in Whitechapel, East London. We have recently been awarded a 2024 Standard Civil Contract by the Legal Aid Agency in both Immigration & Asylum and Public Law, together with allocations across several Immigration Removal Centre rotas (DDAS and DAC). We represent clients before the Home Office, the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber), the Upper Tribunal (IAC) and the Administrative Court.

The role

Owing to our recent contract award, we are seeking a Supervising Senior Caseworker to lead and supervise our legally aided immigration and asylum practice. The successful candidate will have conduct of complex matters and supervise our growing team, which currently includes a sponsored Level 2 (Senior Caseworker) accredited fee earner.

Key responsibilities

• Supervising fee earners in accordance with the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme and the Supervisor Standards under the 2024 Standard Civil Contract Specification.
• Allocating and assessing the work of senior caseworkers, casework assistants and trainee casework assistants, including in relation to reserved matters (unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, clients lacking capacity within section 2 of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and detained clients).
• Conducting your own caseload of Legal Help, Controlled Legal Representation and Licensed Work, including asylum claims, fresh claims, human rights applications, statutory appeals and judicial review proceedings.
• Ensuring compliance with the SRA Standards and Regulations, the LAA Contract Specification, the firm's Quality Standard and the Solicitors' Accounts Rules.
• Overseeing file management, financial management and client care across the team, and supporting the progression of casework assistants and trainees toward full accreditation.
• Maintaining supervision, training, personnel, sickness and annual leave records.

Essential requirements

• Current accreditation as a Supervising Senior Caseworker under the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme.
• A solicitor or CILEX Fellow holding a current practising certificate (normally free of conditions), a barrister in independent practice, or a non-solicitor employed by an SRA-regulated practice.
• Demonstrable experience of supervising legally aided immigration and asylum work.
• A sound working knowledge of the Immigration Rules, the Refugee Convention, the ECHR, the Nationality and Borders Act 2022, the Illegal Migration Act 2023, and First-tier and Upper Tribunal procedure.
• Strong file, financial and client-care management skills, and the ability to work to deadlines under pressure.

 Desirable

• Experience of public law and judicial review work in the Upper Tribunal (IAC) and the Administrative Court.
• Experience of IRC duty rota work (DDAS/DAC).
• Familiarity with CCMS and LAA billing.
