Job Summary

The Orthopaedic Therapy Team is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Rehabilitation Assistant to join our integrated group of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants.

We work with orthopaedic patients of all ages, supporting individuals recovering from elective surgery or traumatic injuries as they progress through their rehabilitation journey.

In this role, you'll work closely with our therapists to deliver treatment plans on the ward and play an active part in assessing patients at the pre-operative stage within our outpatient clinic.

We're looking for someone with excellent communication skills who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment. Previous experience in a similar role is essential.

Comprehensive training will be provided to help you achieve the competencies required for this position.

Main duties of the job


  • To be responsible for progressing treatment following regimes or guidelines.
  • To discharge case simple patients when they have achieved their goals.
  • To contribute to discharge planning including MDT meetings.
  • To participate in the orthopaedic weekend working scheme.
  • To assist the therapists with any patient that requires more than one person to treat or mobilise.
  • To carry out and to supervise exercise regimes and treatment programmes the therapist has prescribed.
  • To be involved, where necessary, with the washing, dressing and personal care of patients, and cleaning of equipment.

Job responsibilities


  • To work with all orthopaedic patients, of any age, under the care of GWH. Locations include PAC, wards and community.2. To assess patients with routine and non-complex conditions independently according to agreed guidelines and documentation.3. To follow identified guidelines and treatment programmes and implement these in collaboration with the occupational therapist or physiotherapist if required.4. To be responsible for progressing treatment following regimes or guidelines.5. To discharge case simple patients when they have achieved their goals.6. To contribute to discharge planning including MDT meetings.7. To participate in the orthopaedic weekend working scheme.


Person Specification

Education Essential


  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Math's.
  • Good IT Skills
  • NVQ Level 3 plus knowledge and skills to diploma level, or equivalent knowledge and skills gained by experience.


Desirable


  • NVQ or similar in Health and Social Care


Experience Essential


  • Knowledge of health and safety issues e.g. manual handling, infection control
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and consent
  • Experience of working in a hospital setting and in a patient's home
  • Previous experience in mobilising/ moving patients with ROM or weight bearing restrictions, using various modes of equipment
  • Experience of carrying out functional assessments
  • Experience of using an equipment ordering system


Desirable


  • Experience of working with patients with a variety of orthopaedic conditions
  • Experience of training others
  • An understanding of prioritising patients
  • To have an up to date and relevant CPD file
