Job Description

Job Title: Senior Assessment Manager, Mathematics

Salary: £45,100 – £60,400 per annum

Location: Cambridge, Hybrid

Contract: Full-time, fixed-term for 18 months (from July 2026 until December 2027)

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

Here, you can make an incredible impact on our world, you can help to change the lives of millions, give them the vital support they need to unlock their potential, and enable them to succeed. You will be managing some of our most important products that directly influence our learners around the world. Being part of Cambridge means you have a strong reputation behind you.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced assessment professional to work in educational assessment and help develop learners' potential worldwide.

About The Role

The Senior Assessment Manager role in the Assessment Reform Group is varied and dynamic, with a portfolio that spans assessment material production, test design and development, and working on education reform projects across the world. A substantial focus of this role is developing and approving the question papers and digital assessments taken by learners in the many exam series that we offer around the world; this is likely to account for about half of your time.

Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include:

  • Overseeing all stages of delivery, from test production through to marking, standard setting and review of test functioning (when required). The Assessment Reform Group is currently working to consolidate expertise in STEM subjects and Thinking Skills, so interest in, and familiarity with, these domains would be an advantage.
  • Developing strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external. The role is responsible for recruiting and managing the Assessment Specialists that we commission to author and review our question papers and mark candidate responses, and the consultants we engage for international projects.

In the International Education group, we are incredibly proud of the reach and impact of the Partnership for Education and the complex education reform projects it delivers across the world. The Assessment Reform Group is a critical partner, supporting the Partnership to design and implement the assessment strands of these projects, which may include developing bespoke assessments, reviewing and advising on national educational policy, and preparing ministries of education to become accreditation partners. This role will play a key role in both business development and project delivery activities, and you will be confident applying your understanding of key theoretical and practical considerations in assessment to new contexts. This may involve international travel.

This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Aside from our hybrid principles, other flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements, should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition.

About You

  • Broad experience of assessment in an education context and will be able to apply this experience to a wide range of subject areas.
  • A background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) would be an advantage.
  • Substantial experience of teaching, examining and/or project management. Your standard of English will be very high, and you will have excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of education in international contexts would be an advantage for this role, as would a post-graduate qualification in educational assessment or educational project management.

If you would like to know more about this opportunity and what will make you successful, please see the full job description attached to the bottom of this vacancy on our careers site.

We are a Disability Confident (DC) employer that is committed to equality and inclusion, ensuring our recruitment process is accessible to all.
