This post is appointed on a fixed-term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum

Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for Trust Medical Fellow posts (ST1 equivalent).
Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and Right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible. Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
The appointments will be within either Acute Medicine, Elderly Care, Respiratory, Gastroenterology or General Medicine within the Directorate of Specialist Medicine, Division B within the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. You will rotate through more than one area.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Foundation 3 and above doctors will work with an inpatient team overseen by a consultant physician. You will provide day-to-day inpatient care including daily ward rounds, requesting and interpreting investigations, discussing care with patients and their carers, and being available for medical emergencies. You will provide inpatient care to approximately 15-20 patients supported by a senior medical staff, and will be available to advise and supervise junior medical staff. You will also have the opportunity to experience outpatient work.
The responsibilities of the post include the requirement to proactively manage all aspects of the inpatient, outpatient and community assessment and holistic care. Direct clinical supervision will be provided by the consultant responsible for that team. You will also have a named educational supervisor to advise on continuing professional development, future career planning and achieving sufficient evidence for development, appraisal, and revalidation.
What We’re Looking For
We have a busy and successful department, and we are looking for doctors at “FY3”/CT1/CT2 to help run our service especially our wards and day units. We are offering a unique experience to come and work with us and gain experience in different specialties. We will work with you to design a rotation giving you varied clinical exposure.
The post is full time (40 hours per week). Successful applicants will be encouraged to contribute to emergency out of hours cover at a level appropriate for their level of training and competency, and this would attract a salary supplement dependent on level and extent of contribution. Candidates wishing to work less than full time, or as part of a job-share arrangement would be considered.

Additional Information
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed fellow doctors and dentists. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave.
Grades for Trust appointed fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)
