Band 7 Senior Project Manager
Requirements
Candidates should have significant experience managing projects in healthcare settings and a relevant degree or equivalent training. Strong leadership, communication skills, and the ability to work in complex environments are essential.
Job Description
Senior Project Managers play a key role within Health Innovation West Midlands (HIWM), leading the delivery of high-impact programmes that drive innovation and improvement across health and care systems. Working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, you will manage projects spanning real-world evaluation, innovation adoption, funding opportunities and stakeholder engagement.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation at the forefront of transforming health and care, working with partners across the NHS, industry, academia and beyond. You'll contribute to cutting-edge initiatives that improve patient outcomes, reduce unwarranted variation and support system-wide change.
We are looking for adaptable, motivated individuals with strong leadership skills who thrive in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. Importantly, you do not need prior NHS experience--we actively welcome applicants with transferable skills from sectors such as industry, consultancy, academia, technology or the voluntary sector.
If you're passionate about innovation and want to make a meaningful impact, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative, inclusive team that values bold ideas and continuous learning.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
You will lead and manage a range of projects, ensuring delivery to time, budget and quality standards. This includes developing and implementing project plans, monitoring progress, managing risks and reporting on outcomes. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to facilitate engagement, support the adoption and spread of innovations, and ensure successful delivery across programmes.
The role also involves assessing business development opportunities, contributing to funding bids and income generation, and leading the analysis and interpretation of complex data to evaluate impact. You will support strategic planning and help shape new programmes aligned to organisational priorities.
Key skills include strong leadership, excellent communication and the ability to build effective relationships across diverse groups. You should be confident managing multiple priorities, working independently and applying project management, quality improvement and analytical approaches to deliver results. A proactive mindset, strong organisational skills and a commitment to inclusive, patient-centred working are essential.

About University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national and international population. It includes Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Solihull Hospital and Community Services, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham Chest Clinic. We also run a number of smaller satellite units, allowing people to be treated as close to home as possible. We see and treat more than 2.2 million people every year across our sites and our hospitals deliver more babies than anywhere else in Europe. We are a regional centre for cancer, trauma, renal dialysis, burns and plastics, HIV and AIDS, as well as respiratory conditions like cystic fibrosis. We also have expertise in premature baby care, bone marrow transplants and thoracic surgery and have the largest solid organ transplantation programme in Europe. We provide a series of highly specialist cardiac, liver and neurosurgery services to patients from across the UK. We are world-renowned for our trauma care and have developed pioneering surgical techniques in the management of ballistic and blast injuries, including bespoke surgical solutions for previously unseen injuries. As a result of its clinical expertise in treating trauma patients and military casualties, the QEHB has been designated both a Level 1 Trauma Centre and host of the UK’s only £20m National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC). We have over 24,000 members of staff and we are committed to investing in their development and their health and wellbeing. UHB is a Stonewall Diversity Champion and aims to achieve positive change for LGBTQ+ people by creating an inclusive, inspiring and equal environment for both staff and service users.
